Bicyclist Hospitalized After Massachusetts Crash

A 71-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized in Western Massachusetts this week after being struck by a car while crossing the street, police said.

First responders from the Northampton Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 221 Pine St. at 1:40 p.m. on Monday, June 28, where there was a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a car.

Police said that the 71-year-old bicyclist was treated at the scene before being transported to Baystate Hospital for further evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the crash, the roadway was closed for several hours on Monday afternoon as the department’s detective bureau reconstructed the crash and investigated the incident, which remains under investigation.
